Sentencing for a 33-year veteran of the Davenport Police Department who stalked his ex-girlfriend was held Thursday.

In a plea agreement, Captain Kevin Murphy pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking. The deal meant a felony burglary charge was dropped. He received a deferred judgment and two years of probation. If he completes the terms of his probation the conviction will be wiped from his record.

Prosecutors say Murphy stalked his ex-girlfriend and entered her home at least three times without her permission. During one of the incidents Murphy covered her mouth and told her, “Don’t call the police and don’t file a report.”

Murphy was demoted but allowed to retire as Captain in 2011.
