Prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges against Ames’ Bubu Palo. Fred Hoiberg quickly reinstated Palo to the Cyclone basketball team. It’s the right call.

These cases are always touchy. Palo has a right to the presumption of innocence, yet there’s no way Iowa State can keep a guy playing who’s been charged with sexually violating a woman. However, new evidence has come to light, and Palo’s legal nightmare is over.

Bubu Palo

I don’t know what happened that night. I just know her story and his story don’t match, and now, no charges. I also know Palo’s previously stellar reputation won’t completely recover. Palo told our John Sears one of the toughest things has been the staring, pointing, and whispering. Palo says he knows he was judged.

No easy answers in these cases. Too many assaults go unreported and un-prosecuted because they’re tough to prove, and the victim often feels she’s on trial. However, sometimes false accusations are made, and the accused becomes the victim.

The only thing we know in this case is that all charges against Bubu Palo are dropped. He’s back on the Cyclones, and though he likely won’t play a big role, something tells me every minute will mean more than it ever has…

Grand View University’s walk-off pin by Eric Thompson to win the NAIA national duals was straight awesome…

Many of you have asked where Andy Fales is this week. He’s on vacation in Waterloo and will return for SoundOFF Sunday night. The aforementioned John Sears filled in for the first time Sunday, and did a great job. John started watching SoundOFF as a Freshman at Dowling. And he’s in his 30′s…

I can’t give much credit to Lance Armstrong for (reportedly) finally confessing to Oprah that he cheated, doped, used performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong had hundreds of chances to come clean, and never did. That would be understandable in a sport where seemingly cheating was the norm. However, Armstrong didn’t just deny.  He lied, bullied, and threatened. He’s out of options, his reputation ruined, so now he’s talking. Better late than never? I guess…

Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time, but overrated. Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time, and underrated. Doesn’t seem possible, but true…

The Big Ten is re-thinking Legends and Leaders. That took longer than it should. Any time the first reaction is scoffing and laughter, it’s not good…

Iowa had to have that win at Northwestern. Got it without much of a sweat. Maybe sweat would have improved Northwestern’s court. The floor looks like someone spilled grape Kool-Aid on it…

I wondered if the Cyclones would have their chins up after the heartbreak at Kansas. Wonder no more. Fred Hoiberg is a good coach…

Have you seen “Hits and Mrs” on TLC? Pete Rose has a reality show. It’s more watchable than you might think…

I’m still not sure what Jodie Foster said. She made more sense in Nell…

Les Miz did well at the Golden Globes. I still don’t want to see it…

And I still need season 2 of Homeland. Doesn’t anybody know a guy who knows a guy?
