GRANT CHECK: New Facilities For Valley View

A Des Moines independent living center is a step closer to a new facility.

Polk County Supervisor Tom Hockensmith presented a $100,000 check to Valley View Village Tuesday. The money comes from a Polk County community development grant. 

The check is just a portion of what is being raised to replace the 50-year-old center. The total cost is expected to reach $13 million dollars.

 Plans for the new center include modern amenities, private rooms and a therapy gym.

Valley View is planning to break ground on the project in the fall.
