FUNDING LAWSUIT: Water Works Sues FEMA
Des Moines Water Works has filed a lawsuit against FEMA over funding of flood repairs.
Water Works claims in 2010, FEMA approved $7 million in funding to repair damages caused by the 2008 flood.
The money was supposed to be used to repair the river bank erosion near six wells an area used to collect drinking water from the Raccoon and Des Moines rivers and Saylorville Lake.
Water Works went ahead and spent nearly $2 million to begin work when FEMA reversed their decisions in 2011. The board later appealed the decision, but was denied.
The lawsuit filed in December is asking the court to reverse the funding revocation.
