Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death for persons in Iowa from one to 44 years of age. An estimated 30,000 Iowans are rushed to hospitals for emergency evaluation each year. Iowa Methodist Medical Center’s Trauma Center has been verified as central Iowa’s only Level I Adult Trauma Center and Blank Children’s Hospital a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.

Dr. Richard Sidwell, MD, FACS, Trauma Surgeon, UnityPoint Health says, "When you or someone you love is critically injured, it is important to get the care you need right away. In central Iowa that care is at Iowa Methodist and Blank Children’s Hospital.  Receiving care at a Level I trauma center for severe or life-threatening injuries lowers a person’s risk of death by 25 percent."  That's according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

To be a Level I Trauma Center, Iowa Methodist has the specialists, the experience and the equipment necessary to save lives – no matter when an emergency strikes. Timeliness and expertise is what matters when trauma occurs.
