There was no change in Iowa’s unemployment rate for December.
December’s 4.9 percent unemployment is still seven-tenths of a percent lower than last year at this time.
The number of Iowans out of a job dropped slightly but so did the total number of Iowans who are working. The December data also reflected a stronger hiring pattern in construction, which added about 1,400 jobs in December and about 4,500 jobs in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The national jobless rate for December was also the same as the prior month, remaining at 7.8 percent.
