Tradesmen from across Iowa put their skills to the test in hopes of being named best in their craft. The annual State Craft Championship was held at the State Fairgrounds Wednesday.
Apprentices could compete in four different areas including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and sheet metal.
Each group had just six hours to complete an assigned project ranging from installing a furnace to putting in an electrical box.
Project Manager for the Sheet Metal Competition Shon Smith explained, “As long as you’re applying your knowledge and the skill set that you learned going through school and showing pride of craftsmanship while you’re doing it you'll excel at it.”
The winners of this competition will go on to the national competition which takes place in Birmingham, Alabama.
