MURPHY’S LAW: Short Attention Span, Royce Ready, Last Stand

Working in the channel 13 sports office some nights, is the worst way to watch games. Wednesday night, I was trying to watch Creighton-Drake, Baylor-ISU women, and ISU at Texas Tech at the same time. I was also trying to get UNI highlights, edit videos, write stories, and anchor the 9 pm and 10 pm sportscasts. I feel like a kid at Chuck E Cheese. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Glad to see Mark Phelps get a much needed big win. Creighton beat Drake by 30 just two weeks ago. For the Dogs to win at home, shows spunk. It also shows Drake shouldn’t have the bad nights it often does. That’s been the most troubling part of the Phelps era. Drake can look really good, and really bad, often in the same week. Consistency needed…

That’s a bad loss for Iowa State. Texas Tech wins one to two Big 12 basketball games a season. ISU had to find focus, and fight through the temptation to take an inferior opponent for granted. Painful lesson learned. It’s January. Not a crushing loss. But the Cyclones better make sure they’re not on the bubble…

The Cyclone women played hard. It didn’t matter. Not even at home. #1 Baylor is a load. Brittney Griner stole a Nikki Moody pass, and dunked. That’s not something you see every day…

Royce White says he’s close to a deal with the Rockets to return to work. I hope it actually happens. At this point, I’d have to see White playing to believe it. I find White sincere in his desire to further the acceptance in sports of those with mental health issues. However, so far, I think he’s hurt, not helped. Ask yourself this: is a pro team more or less likely to draft a player with known anxiety issues? If White succeeds, the answer could change.

On the “Murph & Andy Show”, 76% of our listeners who voted, say they don’t think White will ever play a minute of NBA basketball. White says he’ll report to Houston’s NBA D-League team February 11th. Rio Grande Valley plays the Iowa Energy on the 10th…

Our movie critic, Mike Woody, says Schwarzenegger’s new movie, “Last Stand” is good, and worth seeing in the theater. Woody says he was stunned. Can someone confirm this movie is good?…

I was initially fascinated by the Manti Te’o story–couldn’t get enough–now I’m done. Won’t watch the Katie Couric interview…
