New restrictions could be on the way for teen drivers in Iowa.

A proposed bill would require a sixteen or seventeen year old to have a permit for a full year before qualifying for an intermediate license. Currently that period is only six months.

In addition, teens with an intermediate or special minor’s license could only have one other person in their car unless accompanied by a parent, driver instructor, or other approved person.

Currently, teens with an intermediate license can have one passenger per seatbelt.
