Dozens of Iowa families will say goodbye to their loved ones as they leave for a year-long tour in Afghanistan.

One hundred Iowa National Guard members from the 833rd engineer company based out of Ottumwa leave Monday. 

The soldiers will provide ground support patrolling roads  and searching for explosive devices. 

A community sendoff ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Indian Hills Community College.
