BIZARRE CRIME: Man Accused Of Shooting Horses In Pasture
Authorities in Eastern Iowa are trying to figure out why someone would shoot 20 rifle rounds at a group of horses out to pasture.
“I don’t know what goes through people’s heads to do something inappropriate like that, but I can’t recall anyone ever shooting at horses,” Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said.
Thirty-one-year-old Ryan Grafft is charged with criminal mischief, and livestock abuse, among other offenses. Police say he shot 20 rifle rounds at a group of horses in a pasture near Swisher, killing one animal and injuring two more.
A criminal complaint says Grafft told investigators he doesn’t know why he did it, but he feels it was a stupid thing to do. He is being held in Johnson County on a $17,500 bond.
The injured horses are expected to make a full recovery.
