ESCAPEE STRUGGLE: Juvenile Breaks Officer’s Nose

Des Moines police say an escapee broke an officer’s nose during a struggle Tuesday.

Authorities were attempting to locate a 16-year-old juvenile who escaped from a facility in Eldora.

Officials say Sergeant Brian Vance saw the suspect near the 800 block of Buchanan Street just before 2 p.m. When he tried to arrest the teen, he started fighting and eventually broke Sergeant Vance’s nose.

The boy was facing charges of 3rd degree criminal mischief, 2 counts of assault causing injury, assault while displaying a weapon, 1st degree burglary and assault causing injury from the original incident, the struggle in Des Moines has added charges of interference with official acts causing injury, and assault on police officer causing injury to the list.
