Republicans in the Iowa Senate introduced a voter ID bill on Tuesday. If passed the bill would require Iowans to show a photo ID before they can cast a vote.

Republicans say it is a common sense bill that will stop potential illegal voters.

Senate Democrats have promised to block the bill. They say illegal voting isn’t a problem in Iowa and the law would likely discourage Iowans from voting.

Democrat Brad Anderson, who plans on running for Secretary of State in 2014 released a statement saying, “Rather than finding innovative solutions using modern technology to maintain the integrity of our elections, Senate Republicans and Secretary Schultz have chosen once again to push a bill that would prevent eligible seniors and low-income voters from exercising their right to vote.”
