Slow Start to Heavy Snow…Warning Still in Effect
The snow started to move into the central Iowa area around 10PM. It was a bit of relief to see some snow falling…after waiting most of the night to have enough moisture and cold air to produce what we said was going to happen tonight.
Snow is falling as I speak…and the radar is showing a large band of snow from Missouri that will cause travel problems through the morning commute.
It looks like the heaviest snow will fall between 3AM and 7AM. I think we could see around one inch per hour.
The forecast showed the heaviest amount of snow coming later and later each time we put the forecast together I was thinking…Really? Is this stuff going to get here.
Hate it when the forecast starts making me second guess. It’s part of the business.
Jeriann just arrived at the station and said there were some slick spots on side-streets…but not on I-235. Expect those conditions to deteriorate.
We are still expecting 5″ of snow for Des Moines.
Take extra time…have the emergency kit and watch the updated forecasts all day. Sounds like Mom…sorry.
