Swimming in January, not a phrase often used by people in Iowa but for high school swimmers it’s the norm. 

Before the state meet next Saturday it’s all about qualifying.

Districts were at Summit Middle School in Johnston, Saturday. The following ended the meet victorious:

200 individual medley – the Dragon’s Justin Winnett winner in 1:57.65

50 freestyle – Newton’s Matheus Pinto, the senior is the winner in 21.37

100 butterfly – Roosevelt defending champion, Max Ward cruises to a win in 51.07

200 freestyle – another win for Johnston, Alex Clark swims his best time of the season holding off Valley’s Alex Bodin in 1:46.23

Valley edges out Johnston for the district title. 

The State meet is next Saturday in Marshalltown.
