DANCE MARATHON: Iowa Jives In Donations

Iowa dance marathon

Thousands of University of Iowa students and staff spent 24 hours on their feet.

Participants of the 19th annual dance marathon stayed awake from 7 p.m. Friday until seven Saturday evening.

They did it to help raise money for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

In between dance songs, participants heard stories from the parents of kids who lost their battle to cancer, and from kids who fought their battle and won.

“One of our families who I met on the day, their son was diagnosed,” recounts Executive Director Nic Rusher, “I got to know them throughout his treatment and unfortunately he did lose his battle with leukemia but we still keep in touch with their family.”

Renee kuehlsays the efforts here make a difference, “When Lauryn was in the hospital, we were in and out for about two years. Dance marathon, the volunteers, our family sponsors, they were there for us. They were our family away from home.”

This year’s dance marathon event raised more than $1.5 million for the children’s hospital.

An ISU dance marathon last week raised close to $400,000.

Thanks to KWWL.
