A Clive home was gutted Sunday night by fire.
Firefighters were called to 1911 Northwest 81st Street a little after 8:00 on the report of a fire.
Crews say a person living at the home heard a pop or explosion in the basement, and when they went downstairs to check on it, they saw flames.
All of the people in the home were able to get out safely, but Clive’s Assistant Fire Chief Brian Helland says it could have been a lot worse.
“There were no smoke detectors that alerted the family, everybody did get out OK, there were no injuries, so it was a great success from that standpoint. But we might have got earlier notification if there had been smoke detectors,” says Helland.
The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. A firefighter did suffer a minor injury to the eye.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
