The murder trial of a man accused in the death of a Des Moines woman has been postponed.

Court officials say lawyers weren’t done preparing for the Kino Davis trial and asked for it to be postponed. Anew trial date hasn’t been set.

Davis is charged with first degree murder for the death of 52-year-old Kathryn Mitchell. Mitchell was found dead inside her Woodland Avenue apartment last April, after police received a call to do a welfare check.

Detectives say she died from injuries sustained during an assault.

Davis wasn’t arrested until five months after Mitchell’s murder.
