An eastern Iowa family of seven was able to escape a house fire safely Monday night.
The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports the fire broke out at 14628 Burtons Furnace Road in Durango around 6:30 p.m.
Two adults and five children, ages two to seven years, got out of the home but weren’t able to grab any of their possessions. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
The homeowner, Karen Flogel Kennedy, says extensive work has been done on the home because it flooded twice in the past few years.
The investigation into what caused the fire is still ongoing.
