Des Moines police are looking for a man who took off with a valuable coin in broad daylight.
The store manager at Christopher’s Fine Jewelry on Merle Hay Road says someone stole a coin worth between $8,000 and $9,000.
It happened Saturday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. The manager says the coins were out on the counters and the suspect put the coin in his pocket while an employee was checking the price of another coin.
The manager believes the suspect might try to pawn the coin at nearby shops. The coin is a Bust Dollar minted in 1800.
The suspect is described as a white male, about five-foot-eight, and 180 pounds. He left the area in a white Ford Crown Victoria with a silver spotlight on it and a large black antenna on the roof of the car.
Police are looking through surveillance video in hopes of finding some leads.
