The Board of Regents named the next president of the University of Northern Iowa on Thursday.

Dr. William Ruud was selected over two other candidates. He will assume his duties on June 1.

Ruud comes to Iowa from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania where he is currently serving as president.

He is the 10th president to serve UNI, current President Ben Allen will retire at the end of the school year.

Ruud is under a three year contract and will be paid $340,000 per year.
