Come election time next year it may take voters a little extra effort to fill out their ballot.
West Des Moines Representative Peter Cownie is working on a bill to end straight-ticket voting in Iowa.
Straight ticket voting allows a person to vote for all democratic or all republican candidates on the ballot by check a single box.
Cownie says the elimination of that option would encourage voters to do more research on each candidate.
The proposal has already been approved by a subcommittee.
