Des Moines police have arrested two men in connection with the burglary of hundreds of lottery tickets from a Des Moines convenience store.

The tickets were stolen from the Git N Go at 2911 Douglas in Des Moines on February 4th around 3:45 a.m. Police say a few hours later a man cashed one of the tickets at another Git N Go.

Police released an image to the media of the suspect cashing the ticket and they say someone recognized the man after the photo aired on TV.

The investigation led police to the Royal Motel at 3718 Douglas Thursday morning, where they made two arrests. Sixty-two-year-old Fonda Morgan and 52-year-old Charles Vernor are charged with third degree burglary and second degree theft.

Police say they found a burn pile behind the motel where the two had tried to destroy some of the non-winning tickets.

Morgan and Vernor are being held in the Polk County jail on a bond of $10,000 each.
