Some generous Valentine volunteers lent a hand Saturday to let veterans know they care.
“It’s important that we recognize our veterans every day,” says Iowa City VA healthcare director, Barry Sharp. “This is just one day out of the year that we put a special emphasis on it.”
Volunteers made rounds at the Iowa City VA medical center delivering cards and snacks to patients.
The event is in honor of national salute to veteran patients which is held each year during the week of Valentine’s day.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to show our veterans what they mean to us and Valentine’s day is such a nice holiday and they don’t get the recognition that they need,” Junior, Katie Garvin said.
Other groups are scheduled to visit with the patients throughout the week.
