Ruth Harkin (pictured right), wife of Iowa Senator Tom Harkin and current member of the Iowa Board of Regents, deserves blame for her husband’s problems with his alma mater, claims 2002 Iowa Republican nominee for governor, Doug Gross.

Gross made his comments on Channel 13′s “The Insiders”.

Senator Harkin pulled his official papers from the Harkin Institute at Iowa State University following a long series of disagreements with former ISU President Gregory Geoffrey, current ISU President Steven Leath and the board of regents, particularly Republicans Craig Lang and Bruce Rastetter.

However, Democrat Jeff Link, the new campaign manager for 1st District Congressman Bruce Braley, who used to work for Senator Harkin, said Ruth Harkin isn’t to blame. But Republican Board of Regents members have been hell-bent from the beginning on blocking the Harkin Institute at Iowa State.

Channel 13’s Dave Price and the panel discuss the controversy.
