The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday they are recommending dropping wrestling from the summer Olympic games beginning in 2020.

Channel 13 got in touch with three of Iowa’s Olympic wrestling legends to get their views on the issue. These are the full interviews:

Dan Gable wrestled at Iowa State, won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympic Games, and coached at University of Iowa for 21 years.

Tom Brands wrestled at University of Iowa, won a gold medal in the 1996 Olympic Games, and is the current head coach at Iowa.

Kevin Jackson wrestled at Iowa State, won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympic Games, and is the current head coach at ISU.

The IOC’s recommendation isn’t the final word on the subject. Wrestling and seven other sports that have been shortlisted still have the chance for inclusion in the 2020 Olympics. In May, the IOC’s Executive Board will meet again and vote for one of the sports to be added.
