An Iowa lawmaker is looking to take his talents to Washington, D.C. State Representative Pat Murphy says he’s running for the opening in Iowa’s First Congressional District.
Murphy’s election website says he’ll focus on fighting for middle-class families if he’s elected. Murphy, a Democrat, has served in the Statehouse since 1989 and his stint as the Speaker of the House just ended in 2011.
The First District seat is opening because Congressman Bruce Braley is running for the Senate seat Tom Harkin will vacate when he retires at the end of his term.
Braley says Murphy makes an outstanding candidate, but at this point he doesn’t have any plans to endorse a candidate running for his seat.
