CLOSE CALL: Asteroid To Whirl Past Earth
The earth will have a near brush with a global disaster Friday afternoon. NASA says an asteroid will come whizzing by earth just before 1:30 p.m.
An observatory in southern Spain detected the asteroid last February as it fell under the spotlight of the sun’s rays.
Officials have been keeping a close eye on it ever since and they say it has no chance of hitting earth, but it will come close. The 150 foot wide rock will likely come as close as 17,000 miles placing it within the orbits of more than a hundred satellites.
