The mother of a toddler Dubuque police say died because of injuries caused by her boyfriend, has requested the no-contact order between them be lifted.

Thirty-four-year-old Nicholas Reed is charged with first degree murder and child neglect in the death of two-year-old Bentley Randall. The child was in the care of Reed, who was his mother Kylee Vander Muelen’s boyfriend, when he suffered head trauma and serious burns. Randall died two days after he was rushed to the hospital.

KWWL reports Vander Muelen was in court Wednesday to ask that the no-contact order between her and Reed be lifted, because she is pregnant with his child. The judge hasn’t ruled on the request yet.

Reed is scheduled to go on trial in the case in October.
