Two teenagers are charged with arson in a Mason City house fire.

The fire department was called to a home around 5 p.m. Thursday. They were quickly able to put out the fire, but were called back to the same home a few hours later on reports of a second fire.

Officers immediately knew the fires were suspicious because the house was not occupied and no utilities were hooked up. An investigation found both fire were intentionally set.

Later, a call about suspicious activity led officers to a 13 and 14-year-old who police say were trying to steal a car.

The teens admitted to setting the fires and are charged with second degree arson and second degree theft. Police say the boys are runaways from a local shelter.
