It is the calm before the storm. Clear and cold conditions will settle over Iowa tonight. Temperatures will dip to the single digits with wind chills as low as 10 below. Winds will continue to be blustery overnight out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

We continue to monitor the impending storm on Thursday. The latest information as of Tuesday afternoon keeps totals in the 6 to 8″ range. Des Moines looks to receive approximately 7.5″. The highest totals will occur in southwest Iowa where up to a foot of snow may fall.

A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect at 9 AM on Thursday and lasts through noon on Friday. Travel will be treacherous during that time frame. Blowing snow will lead to visibilities of less than a quarter mile at times.
