If you have to be out on the roads during Thursday’s storm the Department of Transportation wants your help.

The DOT will collect information on road conditions from drivers on their twitter feed.

They are asking those who are out in the thick of things to share traffic back-ups, accidents, and road conditions by using #iatraffic.

The DOT will use the information to gauge where to send road crews.

Of course, they also reminded followers on Twitter Wednesday, “We welcome your input during the winter weather … But remember do not tweet or take photos or videos while driving.  Safety first!”

Travelers can also check road conditions from the DOT here or call 511 in Iowa to get the latest information.
