WHO-HD announced today that Michael Admire has joined the Channel 13 News team as a sports photographer/reporter/anchor. Admire comes to Des Moines from Joplin, Missouri where he held the same position at KOAM and Fox 14. Admire replaces Chris Hassel who departed for ESPN in January.
“I couldn’t be more excited about coming to Des Moines and working for the legendary WHO-HD,” says Admire. “I’m replacing a guy who is now at ESPN. That speaks volumes for the sports reputation at WHO.”
Originally from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Admire earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Pittsburg State University in May 2011. He interned at Time Warner Metro Sports KC, Preps KC and Fox 4 Kansas City Sports.
Sports anchor/reporter John Sears has been promoted to the position of weekend sports anchor. Sears came to WHO-HD in July 2012 after nearly 6 years of sports anchoring/reporting at KCRG in Cedar Rapids. Prior to that, Sears spent a year at KMEG in Sioux City and a year at KRCG in Jefferson City, MO. There’s a good chance he has covered every high school team in the state of Iowa, in some sport.
Sears is a local boy, growing up his entire life in the Des Moines area. He attended Dowling High School and later the University of Iowa. He graduated with a degree in journalism and communications. Sears has covered everything sports related. You name it; it’s likely he’s covered it.
