The Iowa Department of Transportation says drivers should be prepared to share the road with snowplows during Friday morning’s commute.
About three to six inches of snow fell in central Iowa from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning and some areas in western Iowa saw up to 10 inches of snow.
Iowa DOT road crews worked overnight to plow the roads but many are still being reported as partially to completely covered with snow.
The DOT says drivers should remain a safe distance behind plows and use extra caution if you try to pass a snowplow. When a plow is clearing hard-packed drifts a “snow cloud” can happen and cause drastically reduced visibility for nearby drivers.
