The 16 day search for a missing 12 year old Des Moines girl is over, Sunday evening.
Karina Rodriguez-Resendiz’s family had told police they feared 18 year old Sergio Lopez had left town with their daughter after they last saw her on February 8th when they dropped her off at her middle school.
On Friday, police asked for the public’s help in locating her. A member of the public subsequently called the police to report that Karina and her boyfriend were inside a home on Southeast 9th Street in Des Moines.
When they checked inside, they found the 12 year old with Lopez.
He had an outstanding warrant for a previous third degree sexual abuse charge.
Lopez was arrested and is being held in the Polk County Jail on $300,000 bond.
He is facing two counts of third degree sexual abuse and an additional charge of violating a no contact order.
