(KTIV) – Fire has destroyed a longtime Bronson, Iowa business.

Flames broke out at the Bronson Bar and Grill around 5:30 Sunday morning.

Authorities believe the fire started in the kitchen and it does not appear suspicious.

No one was inside when the fire broke out in the small town southeast of Sioux City.

Bronson’s fire chief, Jamie Amick, says it took crews from three area departments two hours to get the fire under control.

The cold weather complicated their efforts.

“We did have to have the city put some salt and sand down, because of the water. It was getting really icy and hard to walk,” said Craig Hines, Assistant Fire Chief. “There’s multiple layers of roof on the building, which made it really tough to make sure we had everything extinguished, because the fire did get up into the roof.”

Crews spent a total of seven hours on the scene.

The business has stood in this spot for decades, but now authorities say it’s likely a total loss.

And Bronson residents say it’s the only restaurant in town.
