Republicans are still waiting to see who will jump in the race for US Senate but Governor Branstad is weighing in on the possible candidates.

During an interview with Politico, the governor said both Representative Steve King and Tom Latham are qualified to run for senate.

However, King is a better fit for his current job in Congress, being a voice for agriculture and conservatism.

Branstad said Latham is the most experienced and strongest candidate to run against democrat, Bruce Braley for the Senate, telling Politico, “I just think that Latham would be the strongest candidate for the Senate at this time, and I feel confident that he would be a great vote-getter in our state.”

The governor added, he doesn’t think both King and Latham will run against each other in a primary race.
