According to the latest Des Moines Register poll, more than half of Iowans favor legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes but the majority of Iowans oppose using it for recreational use.
The survey found fewer Iowans support medical marijuana than they did three years ago.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents support medical marijuana, that’s down six percentage points from a poll done in 2010.
Twenty-nine percent of Iowans polled support allowing recreational use of the drug. That’s up just a point from three years ago.
More than 800 Iowa adults were interviewed for the poll. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
