Des Moines police are investigating two separate shootings at one house on Leland Avenue.

Police say a teen accidentally shot his 13-year old friend in the shoulder Saturday. Police then seized eight guns from the home.

Then late Sunday night a neighbor found the home owner dead in his car, which was parked in the driveway.

Police say 65-year-old Dennis Yohe died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The gun that Yohe used on himself, Sunday, was not included in the eight taken on Saturday.

Police can’t say whether the two cases are connected, but believe that Yohe feared the consequences of giving a hand gun to a minor.

“It was possible he would have been charged at some point in the Saturday shooting… Not that he was involved in the shooting, we don’t believe that, but he could have been charged with possibly providing access to that handgun to someone under 14 years of age that’s in the state code, you can’t authorize that,” Sergeant Jason Halifax said.

The boy who was shot is now recovering at home.
