Iowa schools have something to boast about, statewide graduation rates have increased again.
The Iowa Department of Education released a report Wednesday that showed the graduation rate for the class of 2012 was 89.26 percent. That is up almost 1 percent from 2011.
“Iowa’s graduation rate is a testament to the hard work and commitment that teachers and school leaders show in classrooms across the state,” Education Director Jason Glass said. “While we work to continue that momentum, we also must look beyond the high school diploma and make sure all students are prepared for success after high school.”
Des Moines Public Schools also released graduation rates for the district. Des Moines High Schools had a graduation rate of 79.15 percent, which is an increase of nearly 3.5 percent from 2011.
