A school nurse in Clinton is being recognized for saving a life.

Custodian Pat Schwartz collapsed on Wednesday while snow blowing the sidewalks outside Eagle Heights Elementary School.

Nurse Emily Randolph ran outside to perform CPR. She and another nurse were able to keep Schwartz alive with a defibrillator until paramedics arrived.

“I don’t feel like a hero. It’s just a part of the job. If you have to do it, you have to do it, and then come back in and finish the day,” Randolph said.

Schwartz is recovering in a Clinton hospital.

This caring response seems to run in the family. Emily’s mom was recently named Iowa school nurse of the year.
