ACCIDENTAL DEATH: Tree Falls On Child

A 10-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a falling tree near his home in southeast Iowa.

The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office says Garrett Brockway was with his dad while he was clearing trees near their Burlington home Sunday.

That’s when a tree he was removing with an excavator knocked over another tree, which knocked over a third tree that hit Garrett on his head.

The sheriff’s office says the incident has been ruled an accident.

The Hawk Eye reports Brockway died Wednesday at a hospital in Iowa City.
