STATE CHAMPS: Southeast Polk Takes 5A Crown

It was an all CIML showdown for the Class 5A girls championship Saturday evening.

Dowling faced Southeast Polk at the Wells Fargo Arena.

The Maroons were looking for their first title since 2000, The Rams have just one title with that coming 36 years ago.

Both pulled upsets in the semis to reach the final.

In the 1st half, Caitlin Ingle - a future bulldog inside - scores 8 early points to give the Rams a 3 point lead.

But back came Dowling, Alyssa Beck showed off the mid-range game and the Maroons were back to within 1.

Then its Audrey Faber, the talented sophomore spinning in the lane for 2 helping her on her way to 15.  Maroons down 3 after 1.

Southeast Polk fires back, Jessica Cole buries the 3 from deep. The Rams were the pre-season #1 and they can feel it.

In the 2nd half, Victoria Bricker with a great look to Annie Penquite who led the way with 14 helping Southeast Polk win the 5A State Championship 43-34 over Dowling.

In the other final on Saturday, Cedar Rapids Xavier took the Class 4A crown beating Harlan 53-52.
