Governor Branstad has joined forces with 32 other Governors fighting to keep wrestling in the Olympics.

The state leaders sent a letter the International Olympic Committee urging them to reconsider dropping the sport from the 2020 games.

The letter addressed to IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge touches on the long history of wrestling in the Olympics.  Another part reads, “wrestling accelerates character building. At its core, wrestling is an instinct and embodies the human qualities of hard work, discipline, and perseverance.” The Governors go on to say, “The Olympic Games are meant to provide a venue for people from all nations to overcome differences and forge lasting relationships and wrestling has contributed to these Olympic attributes.”

The letter asks Rogge to hold another vote to reverse the decision.
