A bill that would redefine bullying laws in Iowa is a step closer to being debated.

The Education Subcommittee in the Iowa House approved the bill unanimously Tuesday morning.

The bill better defines harassment and bullying, giving the words broader meaning to cover more cases. It also includes bullying on social media sites.

The bill would expand where and when school officials can report harassment and bullying.

Because it is the first Funnel Week of the session, the full Education Committee has until the end of the week to take action on the bill or it will be considered dead.
