A gun-control advocacy group co-founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is running television ads and targeting an Iowa Senator to support universal background checks.

Giffords and her husband started the Americans for Responsible Solutions campaign after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The campaign is running a combined six-figure ad in Iowa and Arizona to persuade Republican Senators Charles Grassley and Jeff Flake to support universal background checks.

In his weekly press conference with Iowa media, Grassley responded to the ad saying Giffords needs to talk to New York Senator Charles Schumer, who is currently working on a background check bill. “Tell Senator Schumer, and pass your bill around, so we can read it. Then I will be able to respond to her television commercial.”

Senator Grassley says Senator Schumer plans to introduce his gun legislation to congress on Thursday.
