MURPHY’S LAW: Cyclone Seniors, Least Powerful, Metro Exit

Iowa State capped what should have been an undefeated season at home with a win over previously hot Oklahoma State. The #13 Cowboys entered Hilton Coliseum having won eight of nine. They exited with an 11 point loss…

Cyclones threatened to run away, and then threatened to blow it, but when it mattered most, Iowa State got it done. And needed to get it done. Arguably the Clones most important game of the season. A loss would have, at least for the moment, put ISU on the wrong side of the bubble. Now, I think Iowa State is in the NCAA tournament. If the Cyclones want to be 100% sure, and remove doubt and dominoes, win one more game. Could be at West Virginia Saturday, could be in the Big 12 tourney next week…

Another emotional night at Hilton. This time it wasn’t officiating, it was graduating–or at least Seniors. ISU features five seniors in its eight man rotation, and they said goodbye to another raucous crowd…

Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart is so good. He plays hard, and above his age. Smart is just a Freshman. A Smart Freshman…

Sports Illustrated released its list of the most powerful men (and women) in sports. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell ranks #1. John Sears did not make the cut, though the views for his Harlem Shake dancing provided a late push…

SI also had the least powerful men in sports. #1 is former Hawkeye Bo Porter. Bo manages the Houston Astros. The ranking says everything about the thankless Astros’ job, and nothing about Porter’s abilities…

It’s been seven years to the day since Kirby Puckett died. Hard to believe. Puckett in the ’91 World Series was something to behold…

Rider pride on full display at Wells Fargo Arena. A 31 year wait for a return trip to boys state will teach you not to take it for granted. Roosevelt played hard, but Dubuque Senior just too tall and too much…

Urbandale fought hard against Bettendorf. Brad Bjorkgren’s teams always come to play, but Bettendorf stays undefeated…

Determined Dowling Catholic had Iowa City West down, and all but out. Maroons led by six with just over a minute to play, but West has won 50 games in a row for a reason. West forced overtime, and survived. CIML lands 0 teams in the semis. That’s nothing like the girls…

Drake should be playing Friday in the MVC tourney, but alas, it’s Thursday again…

An ex-TSA chiefs says in addition to golf clubs and baseball bats, airlines should also allow battle axes and machetes. Uh, no thank you…
