SEX ABUSE: Man Allegedly Assaulted Girl

A West Des Moines man has been arrested for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a 12-year-old girl.

Fifty-two-year-old Michael Shumway is charged with one count of assault with intent to commit sex abuse. Urbandale police say the alleged victim was an acquaintance of Shumway’s and the contact happened in Urbandale and West Des Moines.

Shumway has waived his preliminary hearing and is set to be arraigned April 19^th. He has been ordered to stay away from all juveniles under the age of 18.

Shumway was taken to the Polk County Jail but has bonded out.
