The city of Des Moines is reminding drivers about an upcoming bridge closure that will affect thousands of metro commuters.
About 18,000 vehicles use the Grand Avenue Bridge over Walnut Creek at 63rd Street each day and those vehicles will have to be detoured as the nearly 100-year-old bridge is removed and a new one is built.
The closure begins March 25th and will remain in effect until September.
North and south traffic on 63rd Street will remain open, but east and west traffic on Grand Avenue will have to use a detour. The city says the detour will be marked.
The cost to replace the bridge is more than $3 million.
