An elderly man who already had a conviction for exploitation of kids has been arrested and charged with indecent contact with minors.

Des Moines police say 81-year-old John David Chapman committed the crimes at his home on March 2nd. The two reported victims were 12 and 13-years-old.

Chapman was convicted in 1996 of two counts of sexual exploitation of children and served almost five years in prison.

In 2005, the Des Moines Register interviewed Chapman. He said he was having trouble finding somewhere to live because of the city’s ordinance barring registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of parks, playgrounds and public facilities with children.

Chapman had since been taken off the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

Chapman faces two charges of indecent contact with a minor and remains in the Polk County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
